December 2010 Update: Thanks to your generosity, the Muslim community has raised over $130,000 for those affected by the Fort Hood murders one year ago. All funds have been turned over to the Association of the US Army (AUSA) for disbursement to the victims. The horrific murders of 13 soldiers and civilians at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009 have left many of us shaken and saddened. For those of us who live near Fort Hood, or who know people who have spent time there, the events have hit close to home.
For many American Muslims, the shootings provoked feelings of betrayal, as someone from their community entrusted with the safety of his colleagues let us all down in the most profound way imaginable.
In light of these events, we have pledged not to forget those who have suffered most - those who lost loved ones. The Fort Hood Family Fund was created as a result of an outpouring of support from American Muslim community, including those living near Fort Hood as well as veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States. By establishing the fund we are hoping to tap into the considerable goodwill of all Americans. The Fund has in a few short days achieved considerable momentum that we hope will assist in a healing of the wounds, both physical and mental, in people we do not know but to whom we have a commitment to help.
We have harnessed considerable resources to collect, manage, and distribute funds in the most accountable and efficient way possible, and we invite Americans of all walks of life to join us in this noble effort. If you have any questions, please
